Developing a Methodology to Determine the Optimal Reactive Power Modes for GTU and CCGT Generators by way of a Digital Calculation Tool

The main objective of the study was to develop a methodology for determining the optimal reactive power modes for GTU and CCGT generators using a digital calculation tool to ensure against potential hazards in converting the unit to the reactive power consumption mode. This study features that the simulation model of the thermal generators was developed and verified. The result revealed that reactive power consumption mode had an insignificant influence on the heating of stator end. On the basis of the obtained developments, a proprietary program complex has been created, which provides the basis to build adjusted PQ-diagrams in the capacitive quadrant taking all the obtained constraints into account.

Abstract

The main objective of the study was to develop a methodology for determining the optimal reactive power modes for GTU and CCGT generators using a digital calculation tool to ensure against potential hazards in converting the unit to the reactive power consumption mode. This study features that the simulation model of the thermal generators was developed and verified. The result revealed that reactive power consumption mode had an insignificant influence on the heating of stator end. On the basis of the obtained developments, a proprietary program complex has been created, which provides the basis to build adjusted PQ-diagrams in the capacitive quadrant taking all the obtained constraints into account.
