Simulation and Performance Evaluation of Microstrip Patch Antenna using Proximity Coupled Feed for 5G Applications
The research is based on design, simulation, and performance analysis of a proximity coupled feed, 5G microstrip patch antenna. It makes use of a proximity coupled feeding mechanism to the desired frequency band. The main benefits of the proximity coupled feed technique were the wide bandwidth, high efficiency, and impedance matching enhancement. Thus, it was chosen for this study. The frequency at which this antenna operates corresponds to central frequencies up to 10 GHz in a 5G communication system. Some of the critical performance metrics that are evaluated include return loss, VSWR, gain, bandwidth, impedance matching, and axial ratio. The developed antenna has a bandwidth of 1 GHz, impedance 64.3 Ω, axial ratio of 7.5092, return loss of -28.22 dB, VSWR of 0.67, and gain of 8.684 dBi. The study reveals that the proximity coupled fed microstrip patch antenna emits an excellent efficiency, good bandwidth, and high gain, promising the possibility of this antenna in 5G applications.
