Grid-Tied Three-port Converter for Enhanced Electric Vehicle Charging with Vehicle to Grid Capability
This paper presents an advanced PV -based on-grid electric vehicle (EV) charging architecture integrating a three-phase active front-end (AFE) converter with a partially isolated three-port converter (TPC). The AFE converter employs voltage-oriented control (VOC) to ensure sinusoidal grid currents, near-unity power factor, and tight DC-link voltage regulation. In addition, the AFE converter is supporting bidirectional power flow, enabling vehicle-to-grid (V2G) and photovoltaic-to-grid (P2G). The three-port DC-DC converter combines a series resonant dual-active-bridge (DAB-SRC) topology with interleaved boost functionality, reusing the same primary side set of switches of the DAB to reduce component count and improve system compactness. A hybrid control scheme, combining phase-shift modulation (PSM) and pulse width modulation (PWM), facilitates efficient power flow management among the grid, photovoltaic (PV) array, and EV battery. Simulation results confirm the system's ability to dynamically balance power across all ports, regulate charging profiles under varying conditions, and ensure compliance with grid standards at different modes of operations.
