IoT-Enabled Remote Operation of a Hand Movement Mimicking Robotic Arm
In industries there are demands to handle tasks that are hazardous and can't be taken care by human. Few such applications are explosive ordnance disposal, maintenance in nuclear power plant, underwater operations. The advancements in the robotics and IoT have introduced new solutions for such issues. This project is the real-time innovation which allows the user to operate from anywhere in the world only if there is an internet connection, reduce the time and travel burden associated with the operation, can handle operations which are infeasible and unsafe for humans. This research mainly focuses on the development of an robotic arm system which is particularly designed for moving in more directions, which gives it more flexibility and range of motion, so that it can perform complex task involving high precision and efficiency. This proposed system contains of two units namely robotic arm unit and glove unit. This glove unit is equipped with gyroscope and accelerometer which helps to capture the user's hand gesture and translates it into precise movement of robotic arm. The robotic arm has a camera by which the movements can be monitored and it can be controlled by a glove interface which is worn in hand. A software is developed to manage the connection between the robotic arm and glove unit and to monitor the feed from robotic arm.As the glove unit captures the user's natural hand movement, using this doesn't need any training to control the robotic arm. This research also further can help to assist surgeries, handle radioactive wastes, maintenance in confined space and inspection of high-risk areas. The current system is designed only with the single robotic arm, but in future we can develop and control this system using multiple arms. Thereby, the given project sets an example for creating innovative techniques both in the industry and research sectors.
