Non-Invasive Cuffless Bioimpedance System for Measuring Brachial-Ankle Pulse Wave Velocity
This article presents a new cuffless bioimpedance method designed to measure brachial-ankle pulse wave velocity (baPWV), an important indicator of arterial stiffness and cardiovascular risk. The suggested approach detects dynamic impedance changes in body tissue caused by blood flow pulses. Tests showed strong correlation between the new bioimpedance device and traditional cuff-based methods. However, absolute pulse transit times were longer because the ECG R-peak was used as a timing reference, and the inflection point of the pulse wave was selected instead of its onset. Despite this, the differences in transit time measurements were consistent and reliable. The results demonstrate that this novel cuffless bioimpedance system has potential for use in clinical environments, offering more comfort for patients and broader applicability.
