Influence of End Effects on Energy Characteristics and Temperature Distribution in a Multilayer Inductor with External Cooling
This article presents the results of a study of the influence of end effects on the energy and temperature characteristics in a short "multilayer inductor - loading" system, presented in the form of mathematical modeling of electromagnetic and thermal processes by numerical methods using the ELCUT software package. The article considers the improvement of the design of a six-layer inductor with external water cooling. The authors analyze the distribution of current and temperature in various system configurations, including with and without a magnetic circuit. It is shown that the presence of a magnetic circuit allows increasing the efficiency of the system to <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$\mathbf{1 0 \%}$</tex>. A study of the temperature characteristics revealed that the difference between the temperature of the extreme and central sections of the inductor is no more than <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$5^{\circ} \mathrm{C}$</tex>, which is acceptable for the selected design. In conclusion, the authors emphasize that end effects lead to a decrease in efficiency by <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$\mathbf{1 5 - 1 7 \%}$</tex>, but the proposed design solutions allow to minimize their influence.
