Coverage Probability and Area Spectral Efficiency in Multiuser MIMO HetNets under Intense Electromagnetic Pulses Effect

The performance of multi-user multiple-input multiple-output heterogeneous cellular networks (MUMIMO HetNets) under intense electromagnetic pulses is investigated in this paper. A novel stochastic geometry (SG) framework is proposed to describe MU-MIMO HetNets with partially damaged base stations (BSs). The coverage probability and area spectral efficiency (ASE) are derived and the impact of antenna damage probability on network performance is analyzed. Theoretical analysis and simulation results show that the coverage probability and ASE decrease with the increase of antenna damage probability. In addition, when the number of remained antennas of partially damaged BSs is less than that of served users at each time slot, the decline in network performance is slowing down and is more sensitive to antenna damage in tiers with higher distribution intensity.
