Optimal Configuration of Distribution Network using Selective Particle Swarm Optimization and OpenDSS

This work proposes an efficient approach for reconfiguring the network (NR) in power distribution systems (PDS) with the dual objectives of diminishing the power losses and upgrading the node voltage profiles. Here, a modified algorithm is proposed, which exploits the selective Particle Swarm Optimization (SPSO) approach, to explore the optimal solution in a specific search space to enhance the efficiency of PDS. A comprehensive review of existing research on NR, focusing on techniques for VP enhancement and power loss reduction. This work details the implementation of the SPSO method to address these challenges across various loading conditions. The study aims to effectively diminishes real power losses and improve the VP of the distribution system by employing the SPSO framework. SPSO is coded in MatlabR2022b using OpenDSS Version 9.6.1.3 (64-bit build) and implemented on IEEE-33 bus electric distribution network. The assessment outcomes reveal that the comprehensive real power loss minimization is <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$\mathbf{3 1. 7 7 \%}$</tex>, <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$\mathbf{2 8. 5 1 \%}$</tex>, <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$\mathbf{2 6. 8 2 \%}$</tex> for partial, standard and high load condition respectively.
