Comparative THD Analysis of 5-Level Inverters Using SPWM Technique

Multilevel Inverters are essential in medium and high-voltage applications, particularly in renewable energy systems, due to their voltage regulation and harmonic reduction capabilities. These inverters generate a staircase voltage waveform from DC sources, effectively minimizing harmonic distortion as the number of levels increases. This paper compares three 5-level multilevel inverter topologies: DiodeClamped, Flying capacitor-clamped, and Cascaded H-Bridge. In this paper, all three inverters are developed in MATLAB/ Simulink using MOSFETs as switches, and Sinusoidal Pulse Width Modulation (SPWM) as a modulation technique, for comparison. The results underscore the advancement in harmonic reduction.
