Vertical Farming for Sustainable Urban Agriculture Using Integrated Smart Intelligence Approach
Vertical farming is one of the new agricultural practices that involve growing crops in structures with several stories or vertically, this speaks to the problem of space in cities and the problems that come with conventional farming. Such systems use heat control, ventilation, Air conditioning and other systems like Artificial intelligence and internet of things in regulating climate and resources. This paper presents a critical literature review of artificial intelligence, the internet of things, and vertical farming with specific to the climate and nutrient conditions in selected vertical farms. The study also analyses different forms of Vertical farming: aeroponics, hydroponics and aquaculture farming technique under controlled environment agriculture (CEA) technologies. Integration of artificial intelligence and IoT in vertical farming led to enhancement of crop quality and yield, the crops are 45 percent better. 6% improvement, vegetables 42.1%, and fruits 39.8%. Such advancements recommend that vertical farming may be favorable and effective for people in the cities to farm fresh foods in abundance all the year round. The application of AI and IoT in vertical farming brings a sustainable solution to food production issues in urban areas hence making it a better solution as compared to traditional farming practices. The steady performance rates of Systems in vertical farming help to tackle food security challenges in densely populated areas.
