Fault-Tolerant and Efficient EV Charging with PI and MPC-Controlled LCC Converter

This work addresses issues regarding the faults detected in a shared charging channel of electric vehicles by focusing primarily on the phase-shift modulated high-frequency full-bridge LCC Resonant DC-DC converter. Its inefficiency in and unreliability towards handling the faults pose it to more reliable fault-detecting techniques. A proposed PI and MPC based closed loop system is established in order to make the overall performance of this system better with faults as well. The study considers simulation of circuit diagrams that already exist and their modified versions. It also considers diagrams with fault conditions and evaluates dynamic behavior of the converter. Key performance metrics, namely overshoot, rise time, settling time, and steady-state error, have been compared using both control strategies. The design of the converter is done on the basis of the small-signal model and MATLAB simulations validated the effectiveness of the proposed system along with some experimental results. The aim is to improve the fault-tolerant and efficient performance of EV charging systems by including a strategy of control that is reliable and adaptive.
