Design and Fabrication of an Adaptive Smart Socket for Intelligent Energy Management in Industrial and Domestic Applications
Traditional electrical sockets come with significant drawbacks when it comes to energy efficiency and power management. They often lead to unnecessary energy drain, wastage, and power losses, especially in domestic and industrial settings. One of the major shortcomings of conventional sockets is the lack of smart control features, causing appliances to consume power continuously—even when in standby mode. Additionally, the absence of remote accessibility and inefficient power distribution among multiple connected devices results in increased wattage wastage, higher operational costs, and reduced appliance lifespan. To overcome these challenges, this paper introduces the design and fabrication of an Adaptive Smart Socket, a cost-effective and user-friendly solution for better energy management. This smart socket is built around the ESP-8266 microcontroller, enabling wireless control, real-time energy monitoring, and scheduling. It incorporates Web View Configuration for easy accessibility and OTA (Over-the-Air) updates, ensuring seamless firmware upgrades without manual intervention. The system was designed using EasyEDA simulations, fabricated in the lab, and rigorously tested in real-world scenarios to validate its performance and efficiency. The results show that the proposed smart socket significantly reduces energy wastage, optimizes power distribution, and provides users with enhanced control and ease of access. Its low-cost and scalable design makes it a promising step toward smart energy management in modern electrical systems, paving the way for a more efficient and sustainable power ecosystem.
