Wind Energy Conversion System using Permanent Magnet Synchronous Generator and Single Ended Primary Inductor Converter with Parrot Optimizer
A Wind Energy Conversion System (WECS) using a Permanent Magnet Synchronous Generator (PMSG) and a Single-Ended Primary Inductor Converter (SEPIC) is widely employed for efficient energy conversion and improved controllability. While PMSGs ensure reliability, SEPIC adapts to varying wind speeds, maintaining output stability. However, system efficiency may decrease due to generator and converter losses, especially at low wind speeds. The SEPIC’s switching dynamics can also increase Total Harmonic Distortion (THD), affecting power quality and load compliance. Addressing these challenges, this paper proposes an approach for WECS using PMSG and SEPIC converter. The proposed method is Parrot Optimizer (PO) The primary aim of the proposed approach is to minimize the THD, ripple factor and maximize the efficiency of the WECS. The proposed PO optimizes the operational parameters such as duty cycle, switching frequency to ensure efficient energy conversion in the wind energy system. Fuzzy logic Control (FLC), Non-Dominated Sorting Genetic Algorithm III-Finite Element Analysis (NSGA III-FEA), Jumping Spider Optimization Algorithm (JSOA) are some of the existing methods that are compared with the proposed method once it is implemented in MATLAB. The proposed PO technique achieves a THD of 0.81%, a ripple factor of 0.93%, and an efficiency of 98.5%, outperforming existing methods. This demonstrates its effectiveness in minimizing harmonic distortion, reducing ripple factor, and maximizing efficiency for reliable wind energy conversion.
