Anti Sleep Alarm for Drivers based on IoT

Driver fatigue is a major cause of road accidents, especially in a time of rising vehicular movement and prolonged driving periods. This paper introduces the design and development of an IoT-based Anti-Sleep Alarm System to improve road safety by detecting driver drowsiness in real time and preventing it. The system employs an Arduino UNO microcontroller along with an eye blink sensor, buzzer, single-channel relay, and gear motor to track the eye activity of the driver and react pre-emptively to indicators of driver fatigue. If the system finds that the driver’s eyes stay closed for more than a specified time limit, it triggers an audible warning signal and stops the gear motor to mimic an emergency braking process. The proposed system keeps on resetting with every blink sensed, forming a feedback monitoring loop to produce prolonged driver alertness. The solution is cost-effective, non-intrusive, and extremely flexible, and thus especially suited for deployment in public transport systems, fleet management, and personal vehicles.
