Performance Analysis of Electric Vehicle Battery Management System using Interleaved Converter Topologies
The application of electric vehicles (EVs) is increasing at a fast rate due to pollution concerns, growing fuel consumption, and government intervention. Battery is among the most important components in EVs. Voltage fluctuation, heat, etc., during charging may adversely impact the performance of the battery. To solve these types of problems, a Battery Management System (BMS) is utilized to safeguard and optimize the battery operation. Although there are many control techniques for BMS implementation, proper selection of the converter topology is also critical for better performance. In this work, we use the Constant Current (CC) charging mode through interleaved converter topologies and examine their performance in a BMS through MATLAB/SIMULINK. Interleaved converters are employed because of their high dynamic response, high efficiency, low inductor current ripple, and high power density.
