Design and Simulation of a Surface-Enhanced Raman Scattering (SERS) based Biosensor for Glucose Detection using COMSOL Multiphysics
The design and simulation of a Surface-Enhanced Raman Scattering (SERS) biosensor for non-invasive glucose detection are presented, aiming to provide an alternative to conventional invasive monitoring techniques. The proposed sensor utilizes gold nanoparticles on a silicon substrate to enhance Raman signal intensity through localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR), enabling precise and highly sensitive glucose detection without blood sampling.COMSOL Multiphysics simulates the electric field distribution and evaluates the enhancement factor across various nanoparticle configurations. Key design parameters, including nanoparticle size, spacing, and excitation wavelength, are optimized to maximize sensitivity. Simulation results demonstrate a significant enhancement in Raman signal intensity, confirming the feasibility of the proposed SERS biosensor for real-time, non-invasive glucose monitoring in biomedical applications.
