Safety Assurance of LPG Gas Through IoT in Industries
Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) is heavily used in industries, so its safety assurance is a matter of top priority. Gaseous leaks and LPG depletion from cylinders can lead to dangerous situations, and therefore an intelligent monitoring system is needed. This paper presents an Internet of Things (IoT)-based industrial LPG safety system. The system described herein tracks a large quantity of LPG cylinders in real-time and detects gas leaks using very sensitive gas sensors. When detected, an alarm process is triggered to raise an MP3 player voice alarm, give an SMS warning to the user, display a "Gas Leakage" warning on an LCD screen, and automatically open windows/doors while turning on an exhaust fan to disperse the gas concentration. The system also monitors the LPG level in every cylinder and notifies when a cylinder is low, enabling replacement on time. All real-time information and historical reports are collected and processed through the ThingSpeak IoT platform. The intelligent system enhances industrial safety by way of anticipatory alerting and automated action, minimizing risks associated with LPG usage. The addition of IoT ensures real-time monitoring and decision-making from a distance, significantly improving workplace safety and operational efficiency.
