Data-Driven Menstrual Analysis of Stress and Mood in Indian Women

Women experience hormonal changes at several life stages, including menarche, menstruation, and menopause, which—alongside external stressors like work demands and family responsibilities—significantly affect mental health. To evaluate the mental health effects of these transitions, this study administered a Google Forms survey to 219 Indian women based on measures of symptom severity using a 1-5 rating scale. Participants were categorized into life stages: menarche (2.6%), active menstruation (74.3%), and menopause transition (23.1%). The analysis showed that factors like age, weight, and occupation notably influenced stress and mood, with heightened symptom severity observed among women in high-stress occupations during menstruation. Implications for practice and research are highlighted based on stressors and mental health needs across the different life stages.
