Design and Evaluation of Dual-Band Microstrip Patch Antenna for Multiple Input Multiple Output(MIMO) Applications

This project is all about designing a dual- band microstrip patch antenna in a 2x2 array setup, specifically for MIMO applications. The design and optimization are done using ANSYS HFSS simulation software. To overcome issues such as mutual coupling and bandwidth limitations, a 2 × 2 array configuration is proposed to improve spatial diversity and increase antenna efficiency. The antenna features an radiating plate shaped like an upside-down L is etched on an FR-4 substrate with a loss tangent as low as 0.0024. A defected ground structure is incorporated to extend the band width and improve impedance matching. The system operates at two distinct frequency ranges, 3.42-3.64 GHz and 4.91-6.62 GHz, and provides a return loss of less than-10 dB, ensuring efficient power transfer and minimal signal reflections. This design provides a reliable and high-performance MIMO wireless solution (like WiFi, UWB and 5G) that supports multiple channels and meets the requirements of today's wireless networks.
