Investigation of Multilevel Inverter with MultiCarrier PWM Techniques for E-Vehicle Applications

The proposed work investigates the application of multilevel inverters (MLIs) combined with multicarrier pulse width modulation (PWM) strategies for electric vehicle (EV) systems. MLIs are known for their capability to synthesize high-quality AC waveforms with minimum total harmonic distortion (THD), which play a vital part in enhancing the quality of power and efficiency of EV drive trains. Different multicarrier PWM techniques are also examined for their effectiveness in reducing harmonic content, improving switching efficiency, and ensuring smooth torque control. The analysis emphasizes the benefits of MLI-PWM combinations in minimizing power losses, improving thermal management, and extending battery life in EVs. However, challenges such as system complexity, voltage balancing, and control algorithm intricacies are also considered. The findings suggest that with continued advancements in power electronics and control strategies, Future electric vehicles' performance and energy efficiency will be greatly improved by MLIs using multicarrier PWM approaches.
