Experimental Investigation of Liquid Insulation using Molecular Sieves in Transformer Oil
The Electrical properties of the used transformer oil have improved by using molecular sieves. This paper shows how well the UOP, Grace Davison and Zeochem molecular sieves help to increase the dielectric properties of the used transformer oil, it reduces the moisture and pollutant content present in transformer oil. Usually used transformer oil contains moisture and dust which reduces the thermal stability and dielectric strength of the oil. To avoid this Karl Fischer titration was used to reduce the moisture. After reduction, key parameters including breakdown voltage, viscosity, flash point, fire point, and acidity were evaluated. The result shows a reduction in acidity and an improvement in breakdown voltage, this result demonstrates how well the molecular sieves help to restore the insulating properties of the transformer oil. From this study, the molecular sieves help to enhance the used transformer oil life span, performance and operations in high voltage systems.
