Signal Integrity Analysis With Compliance Test of USB4.0 Gen3 with Reference Channels & IBIS-AMI Models

In this paper, reference channel modeling and compliance testing based on a time-domain approach have been discussed for USB4 Gen3. The USB4 Gen3 has a speed of 20 Gbps per lane so it becomes important to carefully design the channels to keep the losses within the limit. The reference channels were modeled based on a 4-layer substrate with insertion loss and trace length constraints. The S-parameter and transient analysis of the channel helped to comply with the specifications defined for USB4 Gen3. To further analyze the reference channel, the end-to-end simulation based on compliance employing specific model-based IBIS-AMI models was performed with equalization used on both the Tx and Rx sides.
