Contribuții universitare la dezvoltarea pomiculturii din Republica Moldova
Fruit growing in the Republic of Moldova has developed as a result of extensive fundamental and applied studies focused on establishing the physiological and technological foundations for the intensification of fruit tree cultivation. Since the studied rootstock-variety associations benefit from favorable pedoclimatic conditions for cultivation, their productivity in new orchards depends on the cultivation system and applied technology. The objectives of the research lie in the development of principles and methods for optimizing the parameters of orchard structure, conditioned by the vigor of the variety and rootstock, soil fertility and moisture, and the tree pruning systems, which are the main factors influencing productivity. Orchard management and tree spacing are key elements of fruit production technology. The importance of rootstocks has steadily increased in recent years, as they can directly improve the vegetative and generative performance of the trees. In conclusion, fruit production and quality can be improved by using rootstocks of different vigor, depending on the orchard's layout and tree management system.
