Revisiting REVISIT: The Case for Ceftazidime/Avibactam Plus Aztreonam

We commend Carmeli and colleagues on their publication summarizing the findings of the REVISIT trial 1 .The trial evaluated 422 patients with pneumonia or intra-abdominal infections caused by gram-negative bacteria, randomized to receive aztreonam/avibactam (ATM/AVI metronidazole) or meropenem ( colistin). The study found similar rates of clinical cure and survival between the groups. The authors concluded that ATM/AVI represents a promising therapeutic option for gram-negative infections while appropriately cautioning that the limited number of patients with metallo-beta-lactamase (MBL)-producing infections -only three patients
