Assessment of the impact of climatic and environmental parameters on malaria transmission in the Greater Abidjan region using satellite imagery and Google Earth Engine

Malaria in Côte d'Ivoire is strongly influenced by climatic and environmental conditions, constituting a major threat to public health. Previous studies have shown that global warming could alter the spread of malaria due to changes in temperature and precipitation that affect the distribution of mosquitoes and the parasite. These studies also highlighted that the risk of malaria could increase due to the influence of local environmental factors and climatic parameters. This study combining remote sensing, GIS and data analysis was carried out to better understand the transmission dynamics and factors influencing the proliferation of mosquitoes. The spatial analysis revealed the influence of each climatic and environmental factor on transmission, and a map of the risks of mosquito proliferation in Greater Abidjan was created. This map shows that 19.80% of the area is very high risk, 21.40% is high risk, 33.10% is medium risk, and 25.7% is low risk. This tool is valuable for optimized allocation of resources and better effectiveness of malaria control programs.
