Study of testicular toxicity caused by methotrexate and how quercetin reduces it in albino wistar rats

The potential of quercetin to lessen methotrexate induced testicular injury was investigated in Wistar rats. In compliance with the procedures and prior approval of the Animal Ethics Committee, 48 healthy albino Wistar rats weighing 200-220 g took part in the study. Four groups of twelve animals each were formed from the animals. Group 2: Rats given 8 mg/kg b.wt (i.p.) once a week; Group 1: Control. Group 3 received 8 mg/kg b.wt. of methotrexate (i.p.) once a week and 80 mg/kg b.wt. of quercetin orally daily. Group 4 was administered 80 mg/kg b.wt. of quercetin orally every day. On the fourteenth and twenty-eighth days of the investigation, rats were sacrificed during the 28-day trial. There was significant improvement in testicular weights and patho morphology in group 3 when compared with group 2. The testicular weights and patho morphology of group1 and group 4 were comparable with each other on 14th and 28th day of experiment.
