An Exceptionally Rare Case of Jugular Foramen Extramedullary Plasmacytoma in Ear, Nose, and Throat: Diagnostic Challenges and Management
Abstract Jugular foramen tumors are rare tumors that present unique diagnostic and therapeutic challenges due to their complex anatomical location and the wide range of potential pathologies. We report a case of a 50-year-old female who presented with left-sided headache, ear pain, tinnitus, and cranial nerve deficits. Imaging studies revealed a lesion in the left jugular foramen, initially suspected to be a jugular paraganglioma or schwannoma. However, histopathological examination confirmed the diagnosis of an extramedullary plasmacytoma, a rare occurrence in this location. The patient underwent successful surgical excision of the tumor, followed by completed chemotherapy 6 cycles to prevent recurrence. This case underscores the importance of considering plasma cell neoplasms in the differential diagnosis of jugular foramen tumors and highlights the need for a multidisciplinary approach to manage such complex cases effectively.
