Computer Simulation to Evaluate Dispersion Effect and Voltage Magnitude in Pulsed Electric Field Ablation

Previous epicardial ablation models for selective ganglionic plexus (GP) ablation in atrial fibrillation (AF) treatment have not considered the effects of biphasic pulses. Moreover, the impact of dispersion effects on GP ablation remains underexplored in computational studies. In this study, we developed a two-dimensional computational model of epicardial access that includes coronary arteries, and we conducted simulations to examine the dispersion effect and the influence of applied voltage on GP ablation under 90 kHz biphasic pulses. The results indicated that, under identical conditions, the model that neglected the dispersion effect exhibited a larger area of irreversible electroporation but a smaller temperature increase. Additionally, we found that both the area of irreversible electroporation and the temperature rise increased with higher applied voltage. These findings provide valuable insights for future research in this field.
