RESEARCH ON THE DEVELOPMENT OF TECHNOLOGY AND METHODS OF ANALYSIS OF GARDEN MINT LIQUID EXTRACT

The genus Mint (Mentha L.) is a member of the mint family (Lamiaceae), which has about 25 species and about 10 natural hybrids, which are widely distributed and cultivated in the world. Spearmint, or garden mint (Latin: Mentha spicata L.) is a perennial herbaceous plant reaching a height of 30-100 cm and belongs to the cultivated species of mint. It grows wild in North Africa, South-Eastern Europe and Western Asia. The plant is widely used in folk medicine. The herb and essential oil of spearmint have choleretic, analgesic, bactericidal, fungicidal action. In the literature there is data on the antioxidant activity of the plant. Raw material of spearmint contains essential oil with high content of carvone (up to 57%), phenolic compounds, vitamins. The aim of the work is to develop methods of analysis and standardisation of the liquid extract of garden mint herb. The object of the study - liquid extract of garden mint herb 1:1, obtained by extraction of raw materials with 70% ethanol by repercolation method with a completed cycle in a battery of 3 percolators on the principle of counter current. Standardisation of the liquid extract of garden mint grass was carried out according to the parameters recommended by OFS.1.4.1.0021 «Extracts»: description, authenticity, ethyl alcohol content, dry residue, heavy metals, quantitative determination. Norming of quantitative content of liquid extract was proposed to be carried out on the sum of hydroxycinnamic acids (HCA) and flavonoids. The authenticity of the extract was established by qualitative reaction (flavonoids) and thin layer chromatography (TLC) (HCA). Quantitative analysis of the liquid extract of garden mint herb showed that the content of HCC in terms of rosmarinic acid was 2,210±0,052%, flavonoids in terms of luteolin was 0,216±0,007%.
