Artificial Intelligence Applications in Medical Physics: Improving the Accuracy of Medical Imaging and Radiotherapy

Artificial intelligence (AI) in medical physics is witnessing remarkable development in improving the accuracy of medical imaging and radiation therapy. In the field of medical imaging, AI relies on techniques such as deep learning and neural networks to improve the quality of images captured by imaging devices such as magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and computed tomography (CT), enhancing doctors’ ability to detect tumors and other diseases at early stages. Thanks to advanced algorithms, image resolution can be improved and noise reduced, helping to detect subtle abnormalities that may not be visible using traditional techniques. AI contributes to improving treatment planning by identifying the exact locations and dimensions of tumors, in addition to allocating radiation doses to suit the individual characteristics of each patient. Through machine learning, algorithms contribute to improving the distribution and precise direction of radiation to minimize damage to healthy tissue, leading to reduced side effects and increased treatment effectiveness. AI also enhances integration in this field with other technologies such as virtual reality and 3D printing, which may enhance the accuracy of diagnosis and treatment and provide a personalized treatment experience in line with the needs of each patient.
