Designing of MnV2O6 nanorods adorned with multi-walled carbon nanotubes for enhanced performance of aqueous asymmetric supercapacitor
• Synthesis of MnV 2 O 6 nanorods and MWCNT/MnV 2 O 6 using hydrothermal technique. • MWCNT/MnV 2 O 6 shows higher capacitance of 875 F g −1 at 1 A g −1 . • MWCNT/MnV 2 O 6 //AC displays high energy density of 42.04 Wh kg −1 with 775 W kg −1 . • LEDs, motor fan and kitchen timer are powered separately by two ASC devices. Bimetallic vanadium oxides exhibit numerous active sites, excellent specific energy, remarkable specific power and outstanding cycle stability, making them highly viable for energy storage applications in supercapacitor devices. Therefore, in present investigation, MnV 2 O 6 nanorods is prepared using hydrothermal technique and characterized through various specific techniques. Further, its potential as an electrode material for energy storage devices is extensively evaluated. The MnV 2 O 6 nanorods demonstrate capacitance of 536 F g −1 at 1 A g −1 . Further, to improve the electrochemical performance of MnV 2 O 6 nanorods , a small amount of MWCNTs is added. High capacitance of 875 F g −1 is achieved from MWCNT/MnV 2 O 6 nanocomposite. Moreover, an asymmetric supercapacitor (ASC) was designed using MWCNT/MnV 2 O 6 (+ve electrode) and activated carbon (AC) (−ve electrode), delivering high energy density of 42.04 Wh kg −1 and power density of 775 W kg −1 at 1 A g −1 . In addition, four blue color LEDs, toy motor fan and kitchen timer are successfully powered separately by series connected two MWCNT/MnV 2 O 6 //AC devices.
