Sustainability, Supply Chain Management, and Machine Intelligence: Overcoming Challenges and Shaping the Future
In the modern business world, the integration of sustainable supply chain management (SSCM) with machine intelligence—encompassing AI and machine learning—marks a trans-formative and innovative convergence. This paper provides a detailed exploration of sustainable supply chain practices, addressing core principles, challenges, and the critical need for organizations to adopt environmentally responsible, ethically sourced, and socially equitable strategies. It also examines the disruptive potential of machine intelligence in optimizing supply chains, highlighting key opportunities such as improved demand forecasting, efficient inventory management, and reduced waste. The complex interplay between SSCM and machine intelligence is analyzed, emphasizing challenges like data complexities and ethical dilemmas, alongside the opportunities they present. Finally, the paper looks ahead to future trends and ethical considerations that will shape the evolution of sustainable supply chains in the era of machine intelligence. This survey aims to guide businesses, policymakers, and researchers toward developing responsible, sustainable, and effective supply chains.
