Unmanned Aerial Vehicle-Based Real-time Garbage Detection System

This paper introduces an innovative system for detecting waste in real time, using an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) combined with the You Only Look Once (YOLO) v8 Object Detection model. UAVs conduct aerial surveys to capture high-resolution images, which the YOLO v8 model then processes to accurately identify and locate waste. This method supports prompt decision-making in waste management, allowing timely action for collection and disposal. Designed for versatility in varied environments and scalability for broader waste management needs, the system also generates detailed reports for informed planning. Experimental results confirm the system’s effectiveness in streamlining waste management, demonstrating its potential to enhance efficiency, reduce costs, and promote a cleaner, more sustainable environment. These findings highlight the importance of integrating advanced technology like YOLO v8 with UAVs to address modern waste management challenges, marking a promising advancement toward intelligent, efficient waste solutions.
