An Algorithm for Studying the Comprehensive Impact of Sex Regulation Strategies of Juvenile Lampreys on Ecosystems
Information about the process of sex differentiation in fish has long been known, and the mechanisms involved in primary sex determination are beginning to be identified. Sex determination in fish is a flexible process, with evolutionary patterns between genera and families, or altered by external factors within individuals. As far as we know, current studies have shown that environmental factors directly affect the growth of lamprey larvae, and the growth rate of the larvae directly affects the sex determination of lampreys. In addition, other studies have shown that gender-sensitive environmental variables (e.g., density, temperature) are clues to favorable or unfavorable growth conditions. Our study established a model for predicting the impact of adjusting sex ratios on the population size and ecological environment of lampreys, and demonstrated that the ability of lampreys to adjust their sex ratios in the face of external disturbances has a positive effect on their population continuity. Understanding the sex formation mechanism of lamprey larvae will help to understand how this survival strategy contributes to the continuation of lamprey populations, estimate its impact on Marine and freshwater ecosystems, and ultimately help to understand the survival strategies of other organisms in ecosystems that contain lampreys.
