Screening Of Homoeopathic Formulations Ruta graveolens, Arnica Montana and Ledum palustre for enhancement of chondrogenic differentiation of Human Umbilical cord Mesenchymal Stem Cells
Introduction: Cartilage repair is a promising area of regenerative medicine. Two key players are human umbilical mesenchymal stem cells (hUMSCs) and chondrocytes. hUMSCs, found in umbilical cords, are versatile stem cells with the potential to transform into cartilage cells. Materials and Methods: This study evaluated the cytotoxicity (MTT Assay) of homeopathic preparations of Ledum palustre, Arnica montana and Ruta graveolens at concentration of 0.10 mug/del and assessed proliferation (48 hours post MTT Assay). Differentiation of hUMSCs into chondrocytes was studied using % area of cells converted to chondrocytes with equivalent comparison. Following documented protocol, UCMSCs were isolated and cultured and characterisation of hUCMSCs was conducted by flow cytometry. Results: Ruta graveolens 30C treated hUCMSCs were found to be effective in enhancing proliferation of hUCMSCs into chondrocytes. Conclusion: Conclusive reports from this study will help lay path to explain the effect of homoeopathic medicines using stem cell models and their application in clinical practice.
