Adhesion Forces of Dextran on Dental Enamel as a Function of Contact Time and pH Value
Herein, the adhesion forces of dextran on natural dental enamel are investigated, expanding upon prior research on dental titanium and gold. Utilizing a colloidal probe technique, retraction curves reveal multiple interaction events characteristic of protein‐like adhesion behaviors. Adhesion forces increase with contact time, reaching a steady state, but remained lower compared with interactions with other dental materials (dental titanium and dental gold). The pH independence of dextran adhesion, attributed to its charge neutrality, could be confirmed. Scanning force microscopy reveals that enamel integrity was unaffected across the tested pH range, ensuring reliable measurements.
