Dynamic Tensile Mechanical Properties and Fracture Mechanism of Sandstone Exposed to Chemical Corrosion
ABSTRACT Dynamic flattened Brazilian disc (FBD) tensile tests are conducted on chemical corrosion treated sandstone samples using the split Hopkinson pressure bar (SHPB). The effects of pH values, soaking time and loading rate on the physical properties, tensile strength, macro progressive failure behaviors, and micro failure characteristics of sandstone are comprehensively investigated. The results show that the chemical corrosion will continuously increase the porosity and decrease the P‐wave velocity of sandstone samples. The dynamic tensile strength of sandstone will increase with increasing loading rate, while it decreases with the increase of the soaking time by acidic or alkaline solutions. High‐speed photography and digital image correlation analysis show that the progressive failure behaviors of the FBD sample are controlled by the dynamic loading rate. In addition, we further discussed the microscopic tensile failure mechanism of the chemical corrosion treated sandstone by using X‐ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscope (SEM) techniques.
