Ethics in laboratory medicine. Highlights from the session on Ethics at the 56th SIBioC Congress 2024
The ethical aspects in laboratory medicine, are becoming more and more complex because the continuous improvement of the technologies and the related clinical application, arise several new questions about the adherence of ethical aspects in adopting new diagnostic approach and in the interpretation of the complexes results. Furthermore, the lack of training programs for the development of ethical culture, in formal teaching of laboratory professional, forces the scientific societies to fill the gap planning specific sessions on ethical topics in national and international scientific meeting. The “Ethics” session during the 56th SIBioC National Meeting, aims to bring the attention of the participant to some updating aspects concerning ethic in laboratory medicine dealing not only with the clinical application of new technologies such as artificial intelligence, but also with the ethical governance of the emergent clinical setting such as “genetic” and “neuroscience.” Finally, a particular interesting focus deals with the ethical aspects related to the “research assessment and scientific publications” that allows to underline the need to adopt a wide range of innovative tools to formal research administration and assessment also in the field of healthcare innovations.
