Attitudes of Students of Delinquency and Crime to the Role of Social and Cultural Alienation in the Commission of Crimes

Objective: The objective of this study is to investigate the attitudes of students of delinquency and crime to the role of social and cultural alienation in the commission of crimes, it aims to explore the correlation between social and cultural alienation and criminal behavior, and provide recommendations for rehabilitation programs to facilitate social integration. Theoretical Framework: The study is based on social and cultural alienation theories, along with criminological perspectives, including strain theory and social disorganization theory, to explain the link between alienation and crime. Method: A descriptive survey approach was employed to review the views of (100) students of delinquency and crime on the role of social and cultural alienation in the commission of crimes languishing in correction and rehabilitation centers in Jordan. Results and Discussion: Results revealed a high level of social and cultural alienation among delinquency and crime students, with strong correlations between feelings of isolation, non-normativeness, powerlessness, and criminal tendencies. The discussion contextualizes these results within the theoretical framework, emphasizing how alienation generates psychological distress, weakens social bonds, and increases criminal tendencies. Study limitations are also considered. Research Implications: The study provides insights into social reintegration policies, rehabilitation strategies, and correctional education to mitigate alienation. Originality/Value: This study offers empirical evidence on the impact of social and cultural alienation on crime in Jordanian correctional centers. Its findings can guide rehabilitation programs, influence crime prevention policies, and boost awareness of alienation’s role in criminal behavior.
