Waste Management Systems in Urban Planning for a Sustainable Future

Objectives: To explore sustainable urban planning approaches, focusing on waste management systems that address environmental, economic, and social challenges. To investigate the effectiveness of innovative waste management strategies and technologies in reducing pollution, dependency on landfills, and promoting resource recovery. Methods: Reviewing global best practices, case studies, and policy frameworks for successful integration of sustainable waste management into urban planning. Analyzing the role of recycling, composting, waste-to-energy technologies, circular economy models, and IoT-enabled waste monitoring solutions in enhancing waste management efficiency. Results: Effective waste management strategies include: Recycling, composting, and waste-to-energy technologies. Circular economy models that reduce environmental impacts. Technological advancements such as automated sorting and IoT-enabled waste monitoring, which optimize resource utilization and increase operational efficiency. Economic and social benefits of sustainable waste management include: Job creation in recycling and waste processing industries. Improved public health and better urban living conditions. Challenges include poor infrastructure, lack of financial investment, and resistance to behavior change, which hinder effective waste management. Conclusion: A multi-stakeholder approach, involving government support, technological innovation, and citizen engagement, is necessary for long-term sustainable waste management. Cities can become more resilient, reduce environmental degradation, and promote a cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable future by adopting holistic and circular waste management models.
