Knowledge, Use, and Misuse of Self-Prescribed Doxycycline Postexposure Prophylaxis in a Community-Based Preexposure Prophylaxis Service
This study described knowledge and usage of doxycycline postexposure prophylaxis (doxyPEP) among preexposure prophylaxis users. A survey was launched enrolling 703 respondents: 28.2% were aware of doxycycline postexposure prophylaxis, but only 8.8% used it. One quarter discussed it with medical doctors, and only 51.6% used the recommended dosing. Doxycycline postexposure prophylaxis needs to be implemented within appropriate guidelines.
