Design and implementation of a multimode communication and networking system for marine internet
Vessels often carry a variety of communication systems, such as maritime radio stations, satellites, and even 5G. In order to fully utilize these communication resources to improve the performance of ship networking, especially when satellite services are not cost-effective or even unavailable, it is necessary to interconnect these different communication systems simultaneously to maximize networking opportunities on real-time. To this end, we need a multi-mode communication module that can interconnect different local communication systems available in one ship as well as a networking operating system that can utilize such kind of nodes (ships) available in scene to maximize networking opportunities, which are collectively called “multi-mode communication & networking system” with the following characteristics: high compatibility, high modularization, non-destructive, and strong expandability. A rudimentary of such system is discussed with simple test in this paper in terms of the design and implementation of the aforementioned module and the operating systems.
