Cislunar space debris detection method based on binary projection matrix

Space exploration has evolved from near-Earth space to cislunar space, which brings new challenges to debris detection. The existing methods primarily rely on the differential features between the debris and the background star for debris detection. However, as the distance between the debris and the detector significantly increases, the imaging characteristics of the debris and the background star become exceedingly similar, making discrimination difficult. To address this issue, this paper first proposes a matrix that sequentially records the motion trajectory information of the debris and background star in the sequence of images, ordered from low to high bit. Subsequently, it employs centroid difference feature to detect suspected slow-moving debris, followed by a comprehensive use of two features to suppress false alarms. Finally, an iterative process is implemented to complete the continuity detection judgment. Experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.
