Single-Phase Single-Stage Bi-Directional H6 PEV Charger for V2H Application

Electric vehicle (EV) technology has become a leading trend in the future of transportation, widely recognized as a key strategy for reducing oil dependence, lowering greenhouse gas emissions, and enhancing energy conversion efficiency. In smart homes concept, the high-capacity batteries in EVs offer significant advantages as potential battery energy storage systems (BESS). EVs are expected to take on an active role in energy exchange with the home, enabled by bidirectional chargers. A major challenge for bi-directional chargers is achieving high power density. This research focuses on a transformerless topology as a promising solution to this challenge. This paper presents a single-phase, single-stage bidirectional H6 PEV charger designed for vehicle-to-home (V2H) applications. The proposed system operates in two modes: grid-to-vehicle (G2V) for charging and V2H for supplying power to the home. The design is based on a commercial single-phase 7.7 kVA PEV charger and has been validated through PSIM simulation.
