Parametric Analysis of Lidder Basin Glaciers in Kashmir Himalayas using Multi-Source Data

The present study focuses on investigating of the glaciers in the Lidder basin of the Kashmir Himalayas employing satellite data. The study focused on six glaciers in the basin, all of which had an extent higher than $1 \mathrm{~km}^{2}$. The analysis indicated that the average ice thickness of these glaciers ranged from 26.83 m to 49.10 m. The distribution of glacier thickness is heterogeneous and exhibits significant variation from the snout to the higher elevation zones. The variance in the thickness of glaciers is significantly impacted by its slope and aspect, which are vital topographical factors in influencing the patterns of accumulation and ablation over the glacier’s surface. The findings of the study also reveal significant variation in predicted glacier volumes when three different volume-area scaling methods are used to six glaciers with various mean thicknesses.
