Design & Simulation of Totem-Pole PFC integrated LLC Resonant Converter For EV Application

This paper describes a Totem-Pole converter as Power Factor Corrector (PFC) followed by a half-bridge LLC resonant converter for EV charging purpose. The proposed charger topology employs a Totem-Pole converter as the front-stage DC-DC converter, which operates in continuous conduction mode (CCM), provides harmonic-free AC supply current with unity power factor and maintains the shape of input current along with maintaining DC-link voltage. The second stage, a Half-Bridge LLC resonant converter is used to facilitate the EV battery charging. The proposed charger topology is evaluated on the MATLAB/Simulink platform, through steady-state and dynamic performance analysis for nominal and varying voltage and load conditions, which are further discussed in this work, demonstrating significant improvements in both efficiency and power quality.
