An Improved Equilibrium Optimization Algorithm for Optimal Siting and Size of Electric Vehicle Charging Stations in Distribution Networks

The development of infrastructure for Electric Vehicle Charging Stations (EVCS) is is necessary to meet the rapidly increasing demand for Electric Vehicles (EVs). At the same time, it is essential to ensure stable operation of the power system, address complex challenges, and optimize the use of renewable energy, particularly to bring economic efficiency to investors. In this study, we proposed a framework for identifying optimal placement strategies and capacity of EVCS, incorporating Vehicle to Grid (V2G) technology in a distribution power system with integrated Distributed Generation (DG) with the multi-objective functions include minimizing power losses and optimizing the installation cost of EVCS. An improved Chaotic Equilibrium Optimization (CEO) base on original Equilibrium Optimizer (EO) algorithm was proposed to enhance solution search efficiency, and the standard IEEE 34 bus power network is selected as the simulation platform for testing. The simulation results, conducted in MATLAB and compared with previous studies, demonstrate the effectiveness of the CEO algorithm as well as the proposed problems for optimal EVCS placement.
