Slope Stability Evaluation of Open-Pit Mines using Multi-Temporal InSAR A Case Study of Gevra Coal Mine, Chhattisgarh, India
This study investigates the ground deformation of the Gevra Open Mine, one of the largest coal mines in India, located in the Korba district of Chhattisgarh. Using Sentinel-1A satellite data processed through InSAR techniques, we analyzed the spatial distribution of ground movement within the mine area. The analysis focused on identifying high-risk zones by examining Line-of-Sight (LOS) displacement values. The dataset revealed significant ground movement, with LOS displacements ranging from -0.30 mm to -30.00 mm. High-risk areas were identified where displacements exceeded 2 mm, with particularly critical zones showing deformations greater than 20 mm. Statistical analysis of the LOS data indicated a mean displacement of 1.60 mm, a median of 2.09 mm, and a mode of 4.18 mm, with the maximum recorded displacement being -30.00 mm, suggesting areas of considerable ground instability. A detailed map was generated to visualize these high-risk zones within the Gevra Mine, providing essential insights for risk management and mitigation strategies to ensure the safety and operational continuity of the mine.
