Reference Signal Generation for a Unified Power Quality Conditioner in Urban Passenger Heavy Rail Electrification System

This paper presents the reference signal generation for the unified power quality conditioner (UPQC) in urban passenger heavy rail electrification systems. This study focuses on performance evaluation of power quality improvement in the dynamic passenger load condition. The unit vector generator template (UVGT) and the indirect detection based on instantaneous power theory (PQ) are utilized to generate the reference signals for the UPQC. The simulation results confirm that the reference signal generation based on the proposed method can provide good performance. The harmonic current mitigation, power factor improvement, voltage sagswell compensations can be achieved efficiently by the proposed method. The power quality improvement performance metrics are aligned with the IEEE Standard 519.
