Sun-Induced Fluorescence: A Promising Remote Sensing Signal for Monitoring Peatland Vegetation
Sun-induced fluorescence (SIF) is a remote sensing signal with a large potential to become a powerful tool for monitoring vegetation dynamics. However, despite the existing body of research proposing several solutions for monocultures of crops, the understanding of SIF signal becomes more complicated when it comes to diverse evergreen natural ecosystems such as peatland. Therefore, in this study, we explored the efficiency of SIF in capturing the peatland biodiversity through airborne imaging. Additionally, the ground-based measurements were performed on environmentally manipulated plots for warming and reduced precipitation to understand the impact of climate change on peatland. SIF correlation with other vegetation indices and gross primary productivity were also analyzed.
